Elephanta or Gharapuri in local Marathi language, is an island at a short distance from the South end of Mumbai. One has to travel by a boat from Gateway of India to reach this island. The island has archaeological wonders – famous among them is a Trimurti structure. Elephanta is a UNESCO Heritage site. It has a monolith rock cut temple structure. The temple is dedicated to Shiva. This structure dates back to 5th Century AD. You will also find an old huge canon on the island.
